While knowing the signs of an exhaust leak is good, it is also good to know what you can do in order to prevent these. There are certain vehicles that are at a higher risk for springing a leak in the exhaust than others. There are a few factors to look at.

If you take short trips with your vehicle, then there is a higher risk factor for leaks. One problem is that the engine sometimes collects water in its muffler and pipes and it will just sit there because the engine is not hot enough to evaporate it. This can result in a little bit of rust in your vehicle.

Another factor is age. With use and time, everything breaks down. An engine that is older than 5 years is especially vulnerable to having an exhaust leak. The vehicle needs to be inspected for any leaks.
