Unpacking Safety Ratings

One of the most important considerations in selecting the right car for you is how safe it is on the road. You want to know that you will be adequately protected if you are in a crash. That is why the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) developed their rating systems as described below.

The IIHS relies on five different tests to see what a car will do upon impact. Cars earn scores from poor to good, and the most reliable cars in a crash are named as a Top Safety Pick. The NHTSA developed three main tests to assign a star rating to each vehicle. They look for crash performance in front impact, side impact and rollover situations. Cars are rated from one to five stars, with five stars being the safest choice.

Come to Virginia Select Auto to test drive a safe vehicle today.
