Make Sure Opacity Does Not Return

When you tackle the problem of headlight opacity, make sure to finish the project by sealing your results. If you do not seal the finished clear plastic, the damage that caused the opacity will simply reoccur. You have already put in plenty of time and effort into repairing the original damage; it would be unfortunate to find it necessary to repeat the project the next year.

There are plenty of plastic sealers on the market. Make sure to rinse away all the rubbing compound you used before sealing the plastic. Leaving bits of the compound on the headlight will diffuse the light, canceling your hard work. After you rinse the debris away, leave the headlight lens to dry for a couple of hours, then apply the wax or polish across the entire lens to ensure protection of the surface.
